The great classic work, A Course in Miracles, is devoted to teachings about who we are (children of God), our relationships to God (who is Love) and with each other, and the actually mental nature of our bodies and the world. There are three constituent parts to the Course: The Text, a Workbook for Students, and the Manual for Teachers.
The Text lays out the theoretical foundation for the metaphysical system of the Course. The Workbook contains a series of 365 Lessons to be practiced daily for the purpose of retraining the mind and healing our perception. Finally, the Manual contains information for and about advanced teachers of God.
A Course in Miracles is also about miracles, which students understand to be, in part, a shift in perception to healed vision. But miracles are more than a shift in perception, because the shift has consequences in the world as we see it. The blind are made to see; the lame now can walk. More than that--cancer is healed and people make complete recoveries from all kinds of diseases, injuries, and maladies in circumstances that seem impossible to science. Don't we all crave such miracles, seeing a loved one suffer a seemingly incurable condition?
A Course in Miracles tells us that it is true: "...miracles violate every law of reality as this world judges it. Every law of time and space, of magnitude and mass, of prediction and control is transcended." [T11:63]. The healing message of the Course is that sickness of any kind is not the will of God, and so it is not real.
To be a miracle worker requires that we first become miracle-minded, which means that we must be ready and willing to work miracles. In order to do that, we must abandon all that we think we know about sickness and health, wellness and disease. We must open our minds and our hearts to the real perfection that is there, right where the perceived illness seems to be. This is an act of joining in love with the one who is suffering. As we invite perfection, perfection comes to be our experience. "You see what you expect, and you expect what you invite." [T11:65].
Therefore, if you want abundance in your life, release your thoughts and feelings of lack. "Only you can deprive yourself of anything." [T10:34]. Redefine "abundance," and see how, day after day, you are showered with blessings. Know that what you are seeking is seeking you and that, because you are a child of God, you will not be denied your bounty. The universe is conspiring for your happiness. Everything is going to be all right, and you will have everything that you need.
If you want to experience health, know that you are child of God and that sickness is not your birthright. Know that illness does not have a divine purpose and that disease is an illegitimate imposition upon you, who are a child of God. Dismiss it, therefore, as something in which you are not going to participate. No matter how you presently perceive yourself, you are the direct and perfect expression of God. Your perfection does not await anything other than your willingness to release contrary definitions and expectations. So embrace your wholeness and perfection, which in reality is the only thing that is there for you to experience.
If you want to offer healing to your loved one, know that sickness of any kind cannot be reconciled with God's will for him, which is perfect wholeness. Do not recognize illness in your loved one; rather behold his real perfection, and call on the Holy Spirit in his mind, which will weaken his belief in sickness. He is not sick, and he cannot die. Miracles are the witnesses of the Holy Spirit and speak for His presence.
Look, then, to the God of love for healing, and make not an idol of sickness. This is the teaching of A Course in Miracles.
